BELL HOTEL
SIVAKASI
1997
__
The Bell Hotel in Sivakasi , a small district town in South India
famous for its matches and firecrackers, opened 1997 is another
budget hotel designed for low energy usage .The outer skin
walls of the RCC structure were both shaded against the fierce
sun heat as well as insulated with polyurethane foam in wall
cavities . Centrally air conditioned with air cooled plants as water
is also a scarce commodity in the location , it was designed to
cater for the local populace being the main market base , and
addressed local cultural issues with sensitivity , and adapted
itself to local demands. The interiors were done by a local
designer with a little bit of help from the practice .
